Well, with our first issue under our belts, we caused not a little flurry in the world of Stargate fandom.
"Not Teal'c" (not, we're guessing, his or her real name) gave us this feedback...
Rachel Hyland knows NOTHING!!!!
Rachel Day rocks and is a much better Rachel!!! SGU RULES! I
totally agree with her, especially about TJ!!! Hyland only hates
it because its funnier to hate it. Rachel Day loves it and is
even funnier. Rachel Day, thank you for a great article! Your
Stargate movie review was great, too. Rachel Hyland, you are SO
WRONG!!! I hope you get eaten by one of those things from
"Time."
NT
Hello! I just
wanted to thank you for a fun and involving read. I came across
your magazine through a link on the Gateworld forum, and I am
glad I went ahead and followed it. I read your Geek v Geek
debate first, and it had me chuckling the whole way through. I
think I fall somewhere in the middle, as I don't hate it, but I
don't love it either. But both were very funny, especially to a
Stargate fan. "Oh, no, the ships is broken! Oh, wait. Nevermind."
That had me laughing so hard my co-workers must have thought
I'd gone crazy!
David Rosiak's Shark
Weak was also a great read, as were Kate Nagy's Lost reviews.
Rachel Day's Universe recap was funny and well-done, and Rachel
Hyland's review of "Alice in Wonderland" was right on the money.
But I loved all of it, and I cannot wait for your next issue.
Well, except for
all your Firefly carry on. You want to talk about geek v geek?
What IS it with that show? K. Burtt and Rachel Hyland are
obviously both fans, but I genuinely don't get it. But, then,
I never really liked Buffy, either.
Is there anyway I
could be notified when your next issue comes out?
Thanks!
Jillian
Aw, thanks, Jillian! We forgive you for the lack of Whedon-love, what with the whole us-love. And, yes, there IS a way to be notified... you can now sign up for Geek Speak updates! We hope you do! We love you!
And we also love Sarah Rennick...
Hello Geek Speak Magazine! This
is not something I usually do, but I just got through two days
of reading every article in issue 1 and I had to tell you how
much I loved reading it. From the very funny Stargate Universe
articles to the hilarious SGU Story So Far to the great Lost
reviews to the Hollywood Geek to the Top 13 and After the
Fall to your reviews of Firefly, Underworld, Alice in Wonderland
and the Percy Jackson series (and the poem to Avatar!!!),
I couldn't stop reading and can't wait for there to be an issue
2. I hadn't heard of Jack Campbell before reading the
article Black Jack Calling, but have just now ordered all the
books in the Lost Fleet series because you recommended it. I
also really liked what he had to say about Bloody Jack, which is
one of my favorite series. I also ordered the first Redwall book
and the first Discworld book as well! This is just the kind
of website the internet has been missing. Humorous, interesting,
smart fans who know everything there is to know about SF and
fantasy - by all her references, your editor Rachel Hyland seems
to know more about both than anyone I've ever come across, and
I've been to SDCC every year since 2004. Although I still
enjoyed the article, "Hurry Up and Wait" was the only thing I
didn't really agree with. I like the mid-season hiatus. (Hiati?
LOL.) I think it gives me time to catch up on my comics. (Which
you should cover in your next issue!!)
Anyway, thank you for a really good time! I will be telling
everyone to go read your magazine and I am excited about the new
issue in only a week!!!
Sarah
But perhaps the letter we will most cherish is from one Ling mai Chow:
rachel hyland, i like your
articles, but you swear too much. its not necessary. thank you.
